Air Force One – SAM 27000

When the President flies – on any airplane – that airplace carries the designation of Air Force One. When the President is not aboard, the airplane is known by a designation of Special Air Mission. Over the years, there have been different jets serving as Air Force One. SAM 27000 is a Boeing 707 that served from 1972 to 2001. It served Presdents from Nixon to Bush. These days, the President has two Boeing 747 models at his disposal – SAM 28000 and SAM 29000 when the President is not aboard. SAM 27000 last flew as Air Force One in August 2001 and was dismantled and reassembled for public display starting in October 2005. If you want to see SAM 27000 and take advantage of a rare opportunity to get a close look at an aircraft that had a front seat to a lot of history, head up to the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley.
